Dhaka: Popular Bangladeshi actress Nusraat Faria was arrested at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka in connection with a high-profile attempted murder case linked to the 2024 student-led uprising. The incident occurred on May 19, 2025, when immigration police stopped Faria at the departure terminal and transferred her to Bhatara Police Station. From there, she was taken to the Detective Branch (DB) headquarters on Minto Road for further interrogation.
According to Inspector Sujan Haque of Bhatara Police Station, Faria is among several public figures named in a case registered on April 29, 2025. “She will be officially shown as arrested in this case,” Haque confirmed. The DB is currently questioning the actress to determine her alleged role in the politically charged case, with officials stating that the next steps will depend on the outcome of the interrogation.
Faria, known for her lead roles in popular Bangladeshi films such as Shahenshah, Operation Sundarbans, and Bibaho Obhijaan, is one of 17 actors and public personalities accused in the attempted murder case. The case is tied to the widespread unrest that unfolded during the student uprising of July 2024. This mass protest movement drew intense national attention and led to a government crackdown on alleged instigators and sympathizers.
Other celebrities named in the case include Apu Biswas, Nipun Akter, Ashna Habib Bhabna, Zayed Khan, Suborna Mustafa, Rokeya Prachy, Meher Afroz Shaon, Jyotika Jyoti, Sohana Saba, Symon Sadik, and Azizul Hakim, many of whom are now under investigation. The arrest of such a prominent entertainment figure has sent shockwaves through the Bangladeshi film and television industry, raising concerns about the extent of celebrity involvement in the political turmoil.
As the investigation continues, the authorities have yet to release detailed evidence or statements regarding the exact nature of the allegations against Faria or the others implicated. The case remains under active investigation by the Detective Branch.
